In England’s quarter-final clash with Argentina, Argentinean player and legend Diego Maradona scored two legendary goals stripping England of the chance to advance. The second was one of the greatest goals of footie history, where Maradona dribbled the ball past five England defenders to just slide it in between the posts. The first, however, is known as Maradona’s Hand of God goal. Why? Because he punched the ball into the goal with his hand. Which is supposed to be a foul in football.
If the wind will not serve, take to the oars.
Latin Proverb
Life’s not fair. No, it ain’t. People, as individuals can be fair or unfair, but life as a whole bucket of potatoes isn’t. And while this may be something you tell your children when they’re having a whinge, or something you were told by your parents and teachers, it’s still an important maxim to absorb and acknowledge.
But who cares?
I mean, we all do at some level, but see Soviet Russia for an example of how it all falls to pieces if we try to impose fairness on a mass level. (In Soviet Russia, football kicks you!)
You may think that your playing field was never level, but when life gives you lemons, juice them into a delicious cloudy lemonade. You might even find it more satisfying to have succeeded as a dad and as a person despite having setbacks from the beginning, instead of having a starting advantage.
