Becoming a teenage dad

Becoming a teenage dad

Finding out your partner is pregnant at any age is a life changing moment. There is a huge amount of advice out there for teenage girls who find that they are expecting, but much less for the father-to-be. The chances are the pregnancy itself was unplanned or unexpected, and suddenly being faced with all the responsibility that parenthood brings can come as a massive shock to the system.

Teenage dads are often painted as the ‘bad guys’ by the media, but we’re assuming if you’re reading this you want to do the best you can in a difficult situation. We’ve put together a series of articles to help you understand your rights, responsibilities and choices.

There will be a lot of questions going through your mind and a lot of issues to sort out. We hope Dads Space will be able to help you to make informed choices. Now is also a time to call upon the support of friends and family, even if only to talk things out. If you don’t feel you can talk to those close to you, seek out help from one of the many organisations who offer free and impartial advice.
