Jonathan Gold proves how becoming a dad not only changes the way you think, but can change your whole career path. A product designer by training, when Jonathan became a dad he became frustrated by the above dilemmas—and rarely finding a product that worked for him and first son Max (the name behind Brother Max), he turned parental perspiration into business inspiration.


You never really own a thermometer until…

In a survey of our office, we found that most people who don’t have kids don’t own a thermometer. There’s a whole host of things you never really need to use, own, or even think about until you become a parent. When you do have a baby, you might be baffled by the dilemmas about which of these is the best for the littl'un.


Even the most basic items require a great deal of thinking, research, and Google: a simple search for the term “nappies” will lead to a veritable digital wheelbarrow of debates and product profiles for cloth, disposable, and biodegradable nappies, plus advice and ads for creams, powders, and the inevitable Road to the Loo.   



Running in the family

You might wonder if your kids will have some of your talents, personality traits, or tastes. You’ll take pride in whatever they accomplish, whether they follow you into computer engineering, or contrast your sporty side with a penchant for piano. Jonathan beams as he describes how his sons are differently talented (one being a gymnast, the other overcoming one of the greatest threats to the future of British creativity: Lego telling you how to build things), and beaming at the big and small things your kids do is one of the best perks of fatherhood.
