You will present a much more compelling argument for ‘doing the homework’ if you show how much you value learning. The best way to do this is to learn something yourself.
There may be things you have always wanted to learn – and having children around can give you the motivation you need. Have you ever thought about brushing up on a language? You could learn French at an evening class – or through an online course… and help with your children’s homework. Learning together can be great fun.
Learning doesn’t need to be academic. You can learn through an interest or hobby – although you might not label this as ‘learning’, it is useful to think of it this way. The more you can show that learning can be fun, the more you are likely to instil in your children a lifelong love for learning.
Helping your children understand that learning is something that extends beyond school is going to be vital for their future. Learning is a skill in itself – a vital one for anyone growing up if they are to compete in the future job market. What your children learn at school today, especially in terms of technology, might be out of date by the time they reach working age.
