Barack Obama Victory President US Election Chicago

After a US election campaign that captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world, the results are in, and we have a historic result – Democrat candidate Barack Obama, 47, is America’s first black president. He played it straight with a classy campaign that pulled few low blows against his opponent, 72-year old Republican John McCain.

The father of two’s victory speech, given to supporters on election night focussed on the necessity of change, but he also had plenty to say about family. He began by thanking his wife, saying: ‘…I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years, the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation’s next first lady, Michelle Obama’. He then went on to thank his two daughters: ‘Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine, and you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the White House.’

It was a fantastic victory speech to be sure, but we hope President Obama has thought this whole dog thing through. The White House is, after all a 200 year-old building, full of historical artefacts, and we’d hate for the scrappy little pup to get sent to Gitmo for defiling the Oval Office carpet.

What do you think about pets in high places? Have you had any difficult experiences buying animals for your own kids? Oh, and what did you think about the US election? Comments below please!
