We are what we eat

When Dads Space asked Jacqui Lowdon, spokesperson on behalf of the British Dietetic Association, how important childhood diet is to long term health, she said she could not emphasize it enough. That's infinite expert emphasis on something that might deeply impact the rest of your child's life. Infinite!

You're building a human, so use good materials

This is essentially true. Jacqui told us that childhood diet affects everything from brain development to height. She also said that the food we eat as children can affect lifelong chances of chronic illness or long-term diseases. Even mum's health before conception  can matter; food becomes our bodies, and if you use good quality ingredients, the result will last longer.

Observe: Tudor houses and the London Tube

If you want proof of how diet can at least influence height, try walking around a Tudor house (we suggest a family road trip to Straford-upon-Avon, and all the Shakespeare kitsch that comes with it) without banging your head several times, or taking one of the older London Underground lines at rush hour. Feeling a bit squeezed? That because the majority of people in Tudor and Victorian times didn't have access to the variety and quantity of foods we have today, were undernourished, and thus a lot smaller.

It's never too late

However, it's never too late to start eating healthy. Check out the British Dietetic Association website for more information, and have a look at out healthy recipes page.
