Changing nappies sounds pretty disgusting in principle. This is because it is pretty disgusting. However, it’s a fine example of how, when you’re a parent, you simply get on with things. It’s got to be done, it’s your job to do it, so you do it. After a while you won't even blink.
Changing a nappy is one of the first things you’ll do in looking after your child, and it’s a bit of a milestone. It’ll probably be less unpleasant than you imagine (unless you have an especially weak imagination) and it can make you feel pretty good to have done it. You’re a real parent at last. Embrace the nappy! (Not literally. That would be hideous.)
If you're environmentally concious (or just want to save a few pennies) you might want to consider using re-usable nappies. There's a lot of support out there for you if you decide to do this, but you may not want the faff of making sure you always have some clean ones ready.
You can make changing nappies easier by using disposables: fold it up, chuck it in a nappy bag, tie it up, and you never have to see it again. Disposables also allow your baby’s skin to breathe more easily than old-fashioned washable cloth nappies, so nappy rash is far less of a problem. However, disposables generate a lot of waste.
