Craig David Talks Rascalgate

Amidst all the interviews conducted in the wake of US election fever, none have proved more controvertial than the Newsnight debate between knife-tongued broadcaster Jeremy Paxman and UK rap star Dizzee Rascal.

The piece started out as a fairly harmless "Did hip hop help Obama get elected?" chat, but Paxman quickly steered the talk away from Obama, towards Dizzee's personal politics. Check out the interview:

While we're not entirely sure what was going through Paxman's mind when he asked if the Rascal considered himself to be British, Dizzee seemed to take it in good humour. But the interview sparked a row in the press as people asked themselves if Dizzee had let down the black community by fuelling negative stereotypes of young kids, or if Paxman was simply being a bully.

As always with these things, both sides are sort of right. Could Dizzee have prespared himself better for the interview? Probably. Did Paxman not take Dizzee seriously enough? Probably. What is clear is that a complex  issue like this one deserves some serious thought - so we asked Craig David for his opinion on the whole mess.

Check out our interview here.

What do you think? Was Paxman too harsh, or could Dizzee have done more? Comments below please!
