Plot:
Hancock (Will Smith) is a down and out superhero who causes more damage than good with his reckless rescues. Despised by the public, he gets the chance to turn his life around when he saves the life of a PR Guru (Jason Bateman) who decides to try and turn Hancock’s life around.
Dads Space Review:
Will Smith can do no wrong. Sure he can appear in the odd shonky movie (and Hancock is nothing if not a bit shonky), but he’ll always deliver, even when the film doesn’t. In Hancock, Smith plays against type, as a foul, borderline alcoholic superhero. He’s more interested in where his next bottle of bourbon’s coming from than saving the lives of innocents – a nice twist on the usual superhero movie.
There’s lots of fun early on in the film, but as the Fresh Prince begins to clean up his act, the fun begins to lose its fun, and it actually begins to plod a bit in the last third.
There’s not a huge amount of action in this one, and although you can take kids under 12 to see it, you might be surprised by the swearing and violence on show here, so this may be one to check out yourself first. Hancock may be highly enjoyable in places but it’s not quite super enough to get a full recommendation from us.
