The Future

After a separation, you may feel shattered and broken. But things will get easier over time.

Years after a separation, many men say they feel that they’ve made healthy and positive changes to their lives and that they’re happier than they were. It’s never going to be easy, but you might find you discover aspects of yourself that you never knew existed. You’ve survived one of the most stressful experiences a man can go through, and made it through to the other side. You’ll have found strength that you never knew you had and you might well have a better relationship with your ex than you ever had when together.

Moving on

Relationships are important to everyone, and after a separation, you may feel a great need to re-connect with someone. But while a quick fling can be a healing experience, you should also think carefully before embarking on a new relationship. You may not have given yourself enough time to process the events that have led you to your current situation, and this can make it difficult to form a new relationship. Even if you’re certain, make sure you take things slowly.

You might find it helpful to:

  • Make sure you take some time to grieve the loss of the relationship
  • Join a men’s separation group (you might want to try the Gingerbread organisation).
  • Give yourself time to re-establish your social groups and try taking up some new hobbies.
  • Look after yourself.

Conclusion
